Swansea's Tribute to Hip-Hop's Golden Era
From the Pitch to the Streets: How Swansea Wore Hip-Hop History
Death Row Records is an American record label founded in 1991 in Los Angeles, launched by Suge Knight, Dr. Dre, The D.O.C., and Dick Griffey.
In the 1990s, the label became synonymous with "gangsta rap" and West Coast hip-hop, releasing landmark albums such as The Chronic (Dr. Dre), Doggystyle (Snoop Dogg), and All Eyez on Me (2Pac). At its peak, Death Row was earning over $100 million a year, and sold more than 50 million albums worldwide in total.
Today, it holds a cult status in hip-hop history, remembered as one of the most influential and legendary labels the genre has ever produced.

Why are we writing about this?
In February 2022, Snoop Dogg acquired the rights to the Death Row Records brand and name, and in March of the same year, he also secured the rights to the entire catalog, including Doggystyle and The Chronic. Today, the label is active once again, with plans that include NFT projects as well.
in July 2025, Snoop Dogg stepped into Swansea City's story as a co-owner and investor, when the club opened its doors to him as part of its ownership fold.

Just how large a slice of the club he holds remains the club's quiet secret - described only as a "minority stake", its exact size never revealed. Insiders close to the deal suggest his stake mirrors the one held by Luka Modrić, who claimed 5% of the club back in April 2025, placing Snoop's own piece somewhere between 3% and 5% - a modest £1.15 to £1.93 million investment dressed in Hollywood glamour.
For perspective, the club's true weight still rests with its majority owners: Brett Cravatt and Jason Cohen's Swansea Football LLC holding roughly 71.18%, alongside Nigel Morris at 12.9%, while the Swansea City Supporters Society keeps its own 6.98% stake close to the community's heart. Snoop and Modrić aren't alone in this constellation of famous minority owners either - Martha Stewart joined the fold in December 2025, adding one more unlikely name to Swansea's increasingly star-studded boardroom.
Swansea x Death Row Records
Swansea City has decided that business can and must have style, turning its 2026 summer preparations into a stage for one of hip-hop culture's most recognizable brands. Across the players' chests ran the logo of Death Row Records.
A special, limited-edition jersey, designed in Swansea's classic black-and-white palette, with black detailing on the collar and sleeves, was worn by the squad during their Austrian pre-season tour, across three friendly matches in July 2026:
Against Holstein Kiel (German second-tier side), 18 July
Against VfL Bochum (Bundesliga club), 21 July
Against Udinese (Italian top-flight side)
The shirts worn on the pitch will not go on sale in the club shop — instead, after the tour they will be put up for auction, with all proceeds benefiting the Swansea City AFC Foundation, the club's charitable arm supporting communities across South West Wales.
CLOTHING COLLECTION
Alongside the jerseys, the club launched a full-blown fashion collection titled "Legends x Swansea City x Death Row Records", available online from 19 December 2025. Crafted in collaboration with the streetwear brand Legends, the collection fuses the club's crest, Death Row's iconic imagery, and the clean lines of athleisure style into a limited-run drop that won't be restocked once sold out.
Hip hop culture meets football culture in their finest!
