Is London Red? Money Currently Speaks in Arsenal’s Favour

Who is the biggest club in London? Arsenal or Chelsea? It is a question that will probably always divide football fans. Trophies, history, global fanbases and sporting success all offer different arguments. But there is one category where the picture today is much clearer: commercial power.

The current sponsorship market reveals a significant difference.

Arsenal have built a particularly strong portfolio of major commercial partnerships. Emirates remains one of the most recognisable relationships in world football, while Adidas on the shirt, Emirates across the front of the kit and stadium, Deel on the sleeve and Sobha Realty across the training setup create a powerful commercial ecosystem.

Chelsea, meanwhile, are certainly not short of major partners. Nike remains a major part of the club's commercial structure, while deals with companies such as BingX and Circle's USDC demonstrate the club's continuing global appeal. However, Chelsea have experienced considerably more movement around their front-of-shirt sponsorship in recent years, reflecting a less stable commercial picture.

And this is where the numbers become interesting.

Across the sponsorship categories shown above, Arsenal reach approximately €173 million per year, compared with around €125.5 million for Chelsea.

That is a difference of roughly €47.5 million annually, almost 38% in Arsenal's favour.

Of course, this does not automatically make Arsenal the bigger club. Football cannot be reduced to a spreadsheet. But it does tell us something important about which London club is currently better positioned as a global sports brand.

Arsenal have managed to combine their sporting resurgence with a clearer identity and growing commercial appeal. Chelsea still possess enormous global value, but their commercial strategy has looked considerably more turbulent in recent years.

So, who is the biggest club in London? The debate remains open. But if the question is which club is currently the stronger marketing machine, London is looking increasingly red.
