Girondins de Bordeaux
Le club au Scapulaire
The Girondins crest has evolved through several designs over the club’s long history. Yet its colours, identity and distinctive scapular remain closely tied to Bordeaux.
THE STORY
The Girondins de Bordeaux crest has changed several times throughout the club’s history, reflecting different eras of its identity.
The original emblem dates back to the club’s early years after its foundation in 1881. Over time, the crest evolved from more traditional heraldic designs into the distinctive shield associated with Bordeaux today.
The club’s most recognizable modern identity emerged around the Girondins name, with the Bordeaux coat of arms and the club’s blue-and-white colours becoming central elements. The scapular-style “V” became particularly associated with the club and its shirts.
The crest has been redesigned several times, but the core elements have remained remarkably consistent: Girondins de Bordeaux, the Bordeaux identity, the club’s founding year, and the distinctive blue-and-white visual language.
In a way, the crest tells the same story as the club itself: the design changes, but the identity survives.
